DST Announces SimWise V9.9
Integrated Motion, FEA and Optimization product introduces Frequency Response Analysis and enhanced material modeling
(Canton, MI) – DST (Design Simulation Technologies, Inc.; www.design-simulation.com), a leading provider of affordable and flexible physics based simulation software for the professional and education markets, today announced the availability of SimWise V9.9. This major release introduces significant new FEA capabilities including Frequency Response Analysis, enhanced material modeling with orthotropic and anisotropic material support, and improved reaction force visualization capabilities.
SimWise V9.9 introduces a powerful new Frequency Response FEA Analysis capability that calculates steady-state response due to sinusoidal loads applied to structures. This specialized analysis type is extremely efficient and allows engineers to identify frequency ranges that could cause structural problems. Unlike modal analysis which only calculates natural frequencies and mode shapes, frequency response analysis calculates actual deformations and stresses with specific structural loads and restraints by varying loads sinusoidally and calculating resulting response at each frequency of interest.
New Reaction Force Display capabilities provide engineers with immediate feedback on structural loading. Once an FEA analysis completes, users can simply hover their cursor over any FEA restraint to see reaction forces displayed in an interactive tooltip. Reaction forces are also automatically included when simulation reports are generated, providing comprehensive documentation of structural behavior.
SimWise V9.9 expands material modeling capabilities with support for Orthotropic and Anisotropic Materials. This enhancement enables accurate simulation of composite materials, fiber-reinforced plastics, and other advanced materials with directional properties that are increasingly common in modern engineering applications.
Enhanced Onshape Integration provides improved polyhedral import options with better handling of Onshape assembly constraints that are automatically converted to SimWise motion constraints. This streamlines the workflow for users working with cloud-based CAD data.
"SimWise V9.9 represents a significant advancement in our FEA capabilities," said Alan Wegienka, DST President. "The addition of Frequency Response Analysis and advanced material modeling brings enterprise-level simulation capabilities to our affordable platform. Engineers can now perform sophisticated vibration analysis and work with modern composite materials while maintaining the ease-of-use and cost-effectiveness that SimWise is known for."
SimWise delivers 3D kinematic and dynamic motion simulation tightly coupled with 3D Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Optimization in a single, affordable package integrated with leading CAD systems allowing fundamental engineering questions such as "Does it work?" "Will it break?" "How can it be made better?" and "How long will it last?" to be answered. Knowing the answer to these questions early in the design cycle allows necessary changes to be made at the most cost effective time without building physical prototypes.
Major capabilities of SimWise V9.9 include:
- 3D dynamic motion simulation featuring robust 3D contact capabilities for real-world part interactions.
- Comprehensive 3D Finite Element Analysis (FEA) including Linear Static, Normal Modes, Buckling, Thermal, Thermal-Structural, and the new Frequency Response analysis types.
- Advanced material modeling with Orthotropic and Anisotropic material property support for composite and advanced materials.
- Interactive reaction force display with hover tooltips and automatic report generation.
- Optimization capabilities using results from motion simulation and FEA analyses.
- Simulink interface enabling co-simulation with control systems modeled in MATLAB/Simulink.
- Keyframed animation for sophisticated visualization and presentation.
- Associative interfaces with SolidWorks, Solid Edge, Autodesk Inventor, SpaceClaim, Onshape, and Geomagic Design.
- Comprehensive CAD data import supporting Catia V5/V6, NX, Creo, SolidWorks, Inventor, ACIS, Parasolids, STEP, IGES, and STL formats through 2020 versions.
- Export capabilities to NASTRAN, ADAMS, and Simscape Multibody for downstream analysis.
- Fatigue life calculations with the optional Durability Module.
