DST Announces SimWise V10.5
Built-in AI assistant support, feature suppression, polygonal mesh FEA, and a new Fusion 360 add-in streamline the path from CAD model to accurate simulation
(Canton, MI) – DST (Design Simulation Technologies, Inc.; www.design-simulation.com), a leading provider of affordable and flexible physics based simulation software for the professional and education markets, today announced the availability of SimWise V10.5. This feature release builds on the V10 platform with an installable MCP server that lets AI assistants work directly with SimWise, new tools for preparing geometry for analysis, full FEA support for imported triangle meshes, an integrated scripting environment, and expanded CAD connectivity.
Leading the release is the new SimWise MCP Server, which now installs with SimWise and lets AI assistants such as Claude Desktop drive SimWise directly. Engineers can work with the assistant in plain language to run motion and FEA analyses and report results, help diagnose models that don't run as expected, and validate simulation results. Coverage spans belt and gear kinematics, constraint properties, per-face convection, buckling, FEA report export, CAD import and multi-body FEA. When no dedicated tool exists for a task, the assistant can write and run Python against SimWise, and can save the result as a standalone script that runs later with plain Python and no MCP installation required.
SimWise V10.5 also introduces Feature Suppression and Face/Edge Splitting, giving engineers direct control over the geometry that gets meshed. Fillets, rounds, holes and chamfers can be suppressed for analysis, faces and edges can be split, and any operation can be restored, from the interactive tools, the automation API, or Python. Suppression is pick-and-suppress: select a single round face and SimWise detects the entire tangent-chained band of the same radius and removes it, rather than requiring the user to pick every face in the chain. A new Suppress by Category & Size command finds every small feature across selected bodies or the whole model in one step. A per-body journal records every operation so individual changes, or all of them, can be undone at any time, and suppressed features are listed in the model tree labeled with their type and radius. Importantly, suppressing a feature does not change the reported mass, center of gravity or inertia. Mass properties continue to come from the original geometry, so defeaturing a model for meshing never quietly alters the physics of the motion simulation.
A major advance in FEA comes with Polygonal Mesh FEA. Imported triangle meshes in STL, DAE and now Wavefront OBJ format are first-class FEA parts in SimWise V10.5. SimWise recovers real face, edge and corner topology from the raw triangle data, so engineers can pick faces and edges, apply restraints, loads, heat generation and imported loads, then mesh and solve exactly as they would with a solid CAD model. Topology detection segments the mesh at sharp edges, fits analytic surfaces (planes, cylinders, cones and spheres) to each region, and chains the results into edges and corners. Even a fully filleted part such as a connecting rod decomposes into recognizable cylinders, spheres and planes. Detection is deterministic, so boundary conditions are saved with the model and survive reloading and re-detection. Polygonal bodies support static stress, modal analysis and contour display, and a new Topology page on the Properties dialog provides control of detection parameters along with face, edge and triangle counts and watertight status. Large mesh files also import substantially faster than in previous versions.
A new Scripts ribbon brings Python and VBScript automation inside the application. The built-in Python and VBScript editors provide syntax coloring, one-key execution, Run Selection, Find and captured output, and a User Scripts menu puts frequently used scripts one click away.
CAD connectivity is expanded with a new Autodesk Fusion 360 Add-In that exports bodies, the assembly tree, joints, appearance colors and the camera view directly into SimWise. Joints are collected from every component in the assembly, not just the top level, so joints defined inside subassemblies are carried across rather than dropped.
In addition, SimWise V10.5 introduces Self-Contained CAD Export. The SimWise CAD add-ins can now run on a computer that does not have SimWise installed. The export writes a single SimWise model file that carries its own geometry, which can then be copied to and opened on any machine running SimWise. Topology references, the world transform, materials and assembly structure arrive exactly as they do from a local export. Designers can now send models to an analyst without needing a SimWise installation of their own.
"SimWise V10.5 is about removing the obstacles between a design and a trustworthy simulation result," said Alan Wegienka, DST President. "Engineers can now have an AI assistant run their analyses, diagnose models that misbehave and check their results, defeature a CAD model for meshing without affecting its mass properties, run full FEA on scanned or mesh-based parts, and export from Fusion 360 or from a designer's workstation without SimWise installed. These capabilities keep SimWise the most capable and affordable simulation platform available."
